“To understand water is to understand the cosmos, the marvels of nature, and life itself.”

Our Story
The Holds the Moon Quan Yin Water Temple & Pool (formerly known as the 3 Sisters Kuanyin Temple of Aquatic Wellness), was created in July 2019 here in Huchiun (occupied unceded Lisjan Ohlone territory) otherwise known as East Oakland. Its original intention was to be a space where the aquatic practice of the Triad Round could be shared. The Triad Round is a non-professional, peer-to-peer effort to share the connection and experience of warm water aquatic bodywork with friends and family created and taught by Harold Dull, the founder of Watsu. This inspired one of his students, James Anthony (owner, founder and co-steward of the temple pool), to bring the pool to temperature the same year Harold passed. In 2023, Seh-reum (Tom) was brought on as co-steward to support with developing programming and protocols to make aquatic healing work more accessible to historically marginalized communities and support the reclamation of ancestral and spiritual relationships to the medicine of water.
We wish to make the practice of aquatic healing more equitable because of its powerful potential to connect people with themselves, each other, and the water bodies we are all inherently connected to and that our earth home is made up of. Our temple is also a space for sharing the dharma, particularly dedicated to Quan Yin, the bodhisattva of compassion.
